Farmers Producer Organization members visited ICAR-CISH, Lucknow

A group of 30 members of Farmers Producer Organizations from different districts of Uttar Pradesh and two officers visited ICAR-CISH Lucknow on 22th December, 2022. Interaction with the FPO members was held during field visit. FPO members were made aware about the institute technologies. The role of crop diversification was discussed for enhancing farmers income. Adoption of early, medium and late varieties of mango was suggested. Good agricultural practices in mango and other fruit crops were also discussed for improving fruit quality and enhancing export. Mango cultivars like Mallika, Amrapali and other varieties were advocated for higher income. Soil health and micronutrient management for quality fruit production was discussed. Spraying of micronutrients at pea, marble and fruit developmental stages in mango and guava stage were suggested to get quality fruit. Hindi literature on high density planting in mango was distributed members.The importance of water conservation and irrigation at critical stages of fruit growth stages mustard size, marble size and development stage was advocated To enhance income and nutritional security even from waste lands, growing of various fruit crops like bael, jamun, aonla, and custard apple were suggested. Problems of insect pests and disease management of mango and guava were also discussed to reduce pesticide load. During field visits, scientists obtained feedback from the members and solved their queries. This programme was sponsored by Indo- German Cooperation on Agricultural Market Development Project, jointly with Directorate of Agricultural Marketing and Foreign Trade, GoUP, and National Institute of Plant Health Management (NIPHM) Department of Agriculture, Uttar Pradesh in association with Directorate of Marketing and Inspection, Regional office, Lucknow, Dr. Naresh Babu (Principal Scientist) and Dr.Tarun Adak (Senior Scientist) coordinated the visit.
